Drummer
extrodinaire Norman Higgins was the third member of Lexington Jazz Project's
original line-up. Constantly in demand, his extensive career had found him playing
all over the USA in many major cities: Los Angeles, Nashville, Philadelphia,
Houston, Jacksonville, New Orleans, and Louisville. His numerous venues included
appearances with a star-studded range of jazz greats such as Rahsaan Roland
Kirk, Jack McDuff, and Sonny Stitt. Locally, he had worked with virtually everybody
in the Lexington-Louisville metropolitan area, including the late Duke Madison.
Sadly, Norman passed away early in 2007. His inspiration and influence on Lexington Jazz Project, and on every person who has had the privelidge of playing with him simply cannot be measured. We will all miss his gentle personality, his quick wit and laughter, and his ability to transform jazz drumming into a sublime artform.
